This national celebration is recognised by UNESCO as Cultural Heritage. Dia the los muertos is also called All Souls Day. A true Remembrance day of rituals & ceremonies. Celebrating the lives of  beloved family and friends who have passed away. To honor and remember.

An hommage to the legendary Frida Kahlo

Love Buzz ♡As a great admirer of the legendary Mexican artist Frida Kahlo i am very pleased with an extraordinary Frida Kahlo exhibition this weekend initiated by the Go Gallery in honor of the 6oth year of the passing of the legendary Frida Kahlo. 60 artists, all varying in different disciplines and background, were invited each to create an artwork as a tribute to Frida Kahlo. The result is an unknown exhibition with paintings, sculptures, photography,collages and installations.

It will be this weekend exactly 60 years since the passing of Frida Kahlo.   Frida was an extravagant exotic presence and unique artist who became an icon. In spite of her life of pain due to a traffic accident early in her life she lived her life to the fullest. She was not only married to famous Mexican Diego Riviera, Frida shared intimate relationships with Bolshevik revolutionary Leon Trotski, New York photographer Nickolas Murray. Professional dancer Josephine Baker and Georgia O'Keeffe were also lovers of Frida. Together with her husband she created the New Mexican art; a fusion of western avant-garde, Mexican history and pre-Columbian era. Her passionate life and her paintings -still to this day- speak volumes of freedom and expression, sexuality and imagination. She became one of the greatest female artist in art history.Frida Kahlo was an extraordinary artist, an feminist, an inspirator,A Mythe, a Muse, an Icon.

With a great  admiration for Frida Kahlo tonight i joined a lecture about  the mythical art couple Frida Kahlo & Diego Riviera by Karin Haanappel. About their turbulent life, their unconventional marriage at that time, their great devotion for each other and their shared interest for politics. But most important they shared a great passion for art. The only significant difference; Diego Riviera painted for the people. He was a great painter and muralist. While Frida Kahlo painted her life story. The art world called her a great surrealist. From which Frida was offended cause she said the only things she painted was her own reality. In spite of her life of suffering Frida lived her life to the fullest. She was not only the wife of Diego Riviera,with her extraordinary exotic presence and unique art expression she became one of the greatest artist in art history. She became an icon. Together they created their own New Mexican Art; a fusion of  western avant garde, Mexican history and pre-Colombian era.  As you know we at Milagros

Ook dit jaar word de maand van de Spiritualiteit gevierd.

Spiritualiteit gaat verder dan het geloof, het is een levenskunst in verschillende kunstvormen. In veel culturen is spiritualiteit een heuse lifestyle. Voor Milagros Mundo begint dit jaar de maand van de Spiritualiteit vandaag op 2 November. Op " Dia de los Muertos " ofwel op de Dag der Doden.  Een nationale feestdag in Mexico. De dag dat de doden en de wedergeboorte geëerd word. Deze feestdag is van oorsprong een feest van de Pre-Colombiaanse volkeren; o.a van de Mayas en Azteken. Op de Azteken kallender werd deze dag in Augustus gevierd. Vandaag de dag word het gevierd op de Dag van Allerheiligen en Allerzielen. Honderden jaren geleden hebben de Spanjaarden heel veel van de Indiaanse cultuur proberen uit te bannen. Tevergeefs want in Mexico zijn de sporen van de Spanjaarden heel goed te speuren maar uiteindelijk heeft het de kleurrijke Mexicaanse cultuur ook op een bepaalde manier verrijkt. De mystieke spiritualiteit van de Indianen met haar legendes en rituelen heeft zich door de eeuwen heen staande weten te houden.  De dood is voor vele  Mexicanen niet een afsluiting of een einde. Het is een heel belangrijk deel van het alledaagse leven. Op de ´Dag van de Doden` worden de graven van de overledenen door de familie schoongemaakt en versierd. De lievelingsgerechten van de overledenen worden klaargemaakt. En op de Dag der Doden tijdens een picknick op het graf  door de familie aangeboden en in gezelschap opgegeten. Het is dan overal feest. Alles word kleurrijk versierd. Vele prachtige bloemen prijken de graven en de huisaltaren. En er word muziek gemaakt en gedanst.

Mijn favoriete kunstenares is Frida Kahlo, Mexicaanse en geboren uit Joods Hongaarse en Indiaanse ouders. Frida Kahlo is met haar kleurrijke culturele achtergrond en spiritualiteit, voor mij de belichaming van Mexico & Dia de los Muertos.  Een intrigerende temperamentvolle gepassioneeerde vrouw en bijzondere kunstenares gedreven door de Liefde en de Dood. Over Frida Kahlo is al heel wat gescheven en er is ook een film aan haar gewijd.  Maar de Mexicaanse schrijver Haghenbeck schreef een roman over het leven van Frida Kahlo, getiteld Sangrita en Tequila.Een intrigerende, magisch-realistische roman over Frida Kahlo  waarin recepten zijn verwerkt uit " het persoonlijke aantekeningenboekje " van Frida Kahlo. Haar persoonlijke receptenboek met haar befaamde uitzonderlijk traditionele recepten voor Dia de los Muertos ♥
